FLAT4の歴史

FLAT4の始まりは、東京都目黒区南の住宅街。TYPE-1やTYPE-2がまだ新車で作られていたこの時代に、
SPLITやOVALウィンドーモデルの魅力をいち早く察知し、VINTAGE VW & スピードショップとしてスタート。
しかし、住宅街という立地の中では制約が多く・・・
FLAT4 began in a residential area in the south of Meguro Ward,Tokyo.
At a time when TYPE-1 and TYPE-2 were still being manufactured as new cars,
we were quick to recognize the appeal of SPLIT and OVAL window models and
started our business as VINTAGE VW & Speed Shop.
However, in a residential area, there are many restrictions…

    First Moving
  • そこで、広大な敷地のゴルフ練習場跡地のある東京都世田谷区下馬へと移転。ショールームやファクトリー、デポを構えたトータルショップとなった。マシンサービスは、少し離れたバス通りに構えていた。
    We moved to Simouma, Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, where a vast former golf practice range was located. It became a total shop with a show room, factory, and depot.
    The macine service was located on a bus street a little further away.

    Bug In 22
  • O.C.I.R.で開催された伝説のVWイベント「Bug In 22」に’52 TYPE-1 CHOP-TOPレースカーを持ち込んでエントリー。オリジナルアイテムを販売するため、ブース出店も行なった。
    We entered the legendary VW event “Bug In 22” held at O.C.I.R. by bringing a ’52 TYPE-1 CHOP-TOP race car. A booth was also set up to sell original items.

    FLAT4 FUKUOKA
  • 福岡県福岡市博多区に「FLAT4福岡店」をオープン。
    東京本社との強力なネットーワークにより、
    西日本及び九州全域におけるVINTAGE VWの拠点となる。
    “FLAT4 FUKUOKA” opened in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City. With a strong network with the Tokyo head office, it will become the base for VINTAGE VW throughout western Japan and Kyusyu.

    CAMP BEETLE
  • 東京都目黒区自由が丘にわずか7坪のアパレルショップ「CAMP BEETLE」をオープン。当時のPOPEYEボーイ&JJガールに絶大な人気を誇り、店の前には常に行列が作られていた。
    Opened CAMP BEETLE, an apparel shop with an area of just 21m2 in Jiyugaoka, Meguro-ku,Tokyo. It was extremely popular with the POPEYE boys and JJ girls of the time, and there was always a line in front of the store.

    VW FAMILY DAY
  • 富士スピードウェイにて「VW FAMILY DAY」を開催。ドラッグレース、ミスコンテンスト、ジムカーナ、カーショー、スワップミート等が開催され、日本最大のVWイベントとなった。今や伝説のレーサーとなったMIKE SMITHやJIM LARSENの生の走りを日本で見られるのも「VW FAMILY DAY」の醍醐味であった。
    “VW FAMILY DAY” will be held at Fuji Speedway Drag racing, beauty pageant,gymkhana, car show, swap meet, etc were held making it the largest VW event in Japan. One of the great pleasures of VW FAMILY DAY was being able to see the now legendary racers MIKE SMITH and JIM LARSEN in action in Japan.

    オールドタイムグッズ専門の50’s NETWORKもあった。
    Moved the Tokyo head office to Takaban, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. In addition to the VW parts shop and car sales showroom, there was also 50’s NETWORK, which specializes in old-time goods.

  • 幻のホイールと言われていたBRMホイールをFLAT4が世界で初めてオリジナルプロダクト。BRMホイールを待ちわびていた世界中のCAL-LOOK VWファンから大絶賛され、FLAT4オリジナルプロダクツの中でもベストセラーとなった。
    FLAT4 is the world’s first original product of the BRM wheel. Which was said to be a phantom wheel. It received great praise from CAL-LOOK VW fans around the world who had been waiting for BRM wheels, and became the best-selling FLAT4 original product.

    1FがFOR SALE CARのショールーム、2Fがショップとなった。
    ちなみに、この場所はそれまでFLAT4デポとしてパーツの
    保管等を行なっていたウェアハウスであった。
    Moved the Tokyo head office to Simouma, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.The 1st floor is a FOR SALE CAR showroom, and the 2nd floor is a shop.
    By the way, this location was previously a warehouse used as a FLAT4 depot to store parts.

  • 東京都目黒区鷹番に「FLAT4 SPEED」をオープン。
    PORSCHE 356やM.BENZ、Jaguar等のクラシックスポーツカーの専門店で、目黒通りに面した1Fにはキレイに仕上げられたFOR SALE CARがずらりと並んでいた。
    “FLAT4 SPEED” opened in Takaban, Meguro-ku, Tokyo. A store specializing in classic sports cars such as PORSCHE 356, M.BENZ, and Jaguar, the 1st floor facing Meguro Street was lined with beautifully finished FOR SALE CARs.

  • 1960年代にEMPI社によって作られたGTウッドステアリングホイールを、最高級のマホガニーウッドを採用してオリジナルに忠実に再現。発売と同時にたちまち人気となり、BRMホイールに次ぐベストセラーとなった。
    The GT wood steering wheel made by EMPI in the 1960s is faithfully recreated to the original using
    the highest quality mahogany wood. It quickly became popular upon release, becoming the second best seller after BRM wheels.

    In response to the need for a high-performance, high-quality exhaust muffler, we have released the Revmaster Quiet Muffler, an independently developed exhaust pipe with superior exhaust efficiency than conventional quiet mufflers. Available in single and dual types, it became a best seller.

  • 1970年代のクイックシフターの中でも高い人気を誇っていた
    EMPIエリミネーターシフターをリプロダクト。
    もちろん専用のケースもEMPIオリジナルを忠実に再現し、
    当時の雰囲気にこだわった。
    A reproduction of the EMPI Eliminator shifter, which was very popular among quick shifter in the 1970s. Of course the special case is also a faithful reproduction of the EMPI original with an emphasis on the atmosphere of the time.

    FLAT4 BANJO STEERING WHEEL
  • 当時からワンランク上のカスタムステアリングとして人気のあった
    バンジョーステアリング。しかし、オリジナルは1950年代のTYPE-1
    にしか装着できなかったため、ボス別体にてリプロダクトする事で、
    高年式のモデルにも装着可能とした。
    Banjo steering wheel has been popular since then as a higher-grade custom steering wheel. However, since the original could only be installed on TYPE-1 models from the 1950s, by reproducing it with a separate boss, it was possible to install it on older models as well.

  • パソコンの普及にともない、FLAT4公式サイトをオープン。
    販売車輌やオリジナルプロダクツを掲載し、世界中のVWファンへ情報を発信。
    With the spread of computers, the official FLAT4 website was opened. We post vehicles for sale and original products and disseminate information to VW fans around the world.

    自動車ディーラーが立ち並ぶ目黒通りは
    日本のデトロイトと呼ばれる絶好のロケーション。
    Moved the Tokyo head office to Takaban, Meguro-ku, Tokyo.
    Meguro street lined with car dealerships is a perfect location and is known as Japan’s Detroit.

  • 世界的にインターネットが普及し、通信販売の一つとしてオンラインショップをスタート。空冷VWを構成する部品一つからチューニング・カスタムパーツまで様々なアイテムをラインナップ。
    With the spread of the Internet worldwide, we started an online shop as a form of mail order. We have a lineup of various items from single parts that make up air-cooled VWs to tuning and custom parts.

    We are launching the FLAT4 VW genuine style steering wheel, which faithfully reproduces the genuine VW details. Later, a lineup for Ivory and TYPE-2 was also added.

  • 仙台ハイランドジャパンドラッグレースウェイにて、PRAとのジョイントレース「FLAT4 STREET LEGAL DRAG RACE」を開催。一般の空冷VWオーナーにももっとドラッグレースを身近に楽しんでもらおうと企画された当イベントは2007年まで続いた。
    A joint race with PRA, “FLAT4 STREET LEGAL DRAG RACE” was held at Sendai Highland Japan Drag Raceway. This event which was planned to allow general air-cooled VW owners to enjoy drag racing more closely, continued until 2007.

  • 世界的に貴重なFUCHS社製911アロイホイールを
    FLAT4がオリジナルで製作。
    その後、4.5J/6J DEEPやフルクロームタイプもラインナップ。
    FLAT4 originally produced the globally valuable
    FUCHS 911 alloy wheels.
    After that, 4.5J/6J DEEP and full chrome types
    were also added to the lineup.

    We made our first European debut by entering the ’52 TYPE-1 CHOP-TOP from Japan at the EUROPEAN BUG-IN event held for the first time in Belgium.

    Planning and holding Japan’s first authentic vintage VW event. After that, the number of entry cars increased each time in 2011,2013,2015,2017,and 2019. And the appeal of vintage VW was once again recognized.

  • 東京本社の並びに、VINTAGEジュークボックスをディスプレイしたショールームをオープン。店内には丁寧にレストアが施されたジュークボックスがディスプレイ販売され、当時ならではのアナログサウンドを試聴する事もできる。
    We opened a showroom displaying VINTAGE jukeboxes next to our Tokyo headquarters. Inside the store, jukeboxes that have been carefully restored are on display for sale, and you can sample the analog sounds unique to that time.

    Head office moved to Honmoku, Yokohama city, Kanagawa.
    We have opened a two-story shop and showroom with a parking
    lot along Honmoku Street which has an American atmosphere.
